DPF Regeneration

  1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of dashboard.
  1. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. If there are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. If there are no DTCs indicated, go to Step 4 .
  1. Check DISTANCE OF LATEST DPF REGENERATION in the DATA LIST with the HDS. If it is over 300 km (186 mile), go to Step 5 . If it is below 300 km (186 mile), check for damage or clogging at the DPF differential pressure sensor and the DPF differential pressure sensor piping. If there is no damage or clogging there, go to Step 5 . If the DPF differential pressure sensor piping is damaged or clogged, replace the piping. Then go to Step 1 and do this procedure again.
  1. Select DPF REGENERATION in the Adjustment with the HDS. If the result is COMPLETED, this procedure is completed. If the HDS shows other than ‘‘COMPLETED'', go to the appropriate step listed below:
    • ‘‘Wrong condition'', go to Step 6 .
    • ‘‘DPF system check repuired'' (PM amount too much or Ash amount too much), go to Step 7 .
    • ‘‘The DPF regeneration mode interrupted'' (Exhaust system temperature did not rise after the specified time), go to Step 8 .
    • ‘‘The DPF regeneration mode interrupted'' (Exhaust gas temperature before the catalytic converter is too high (EGT sensor 1)), go to Step 9 .
    • ‘‘The DPF regeneration mode interrupted'' (Exhaust gas temperature between catalytic converter and the DPF is too high (EGT sensor 2)), go to Step 10 .
    • ‘‘The DPF regeneration mode interrupted'' (Time-out), go to Step 11 .
  1. If the HDS shows that the regeneration was interrupted because it was in the ‘‘Wrong condition'', follow what is shown in the screen.
  1. If the HDS shows ‘‘DPF system check required'' (PM amount too much or Ash amount too much), check these items:
    • Check for damage or clogging at the DPF differential pressure sensor piping.
    • Check for damage or clogging at the DPF differential pressure sensor.
If there are no problems at the items, replace the DPF.
  1. If the HDS shows that the regeneration was interrupted because the exhaust system temperature did not rise after the specified time, check these items:
    • Check the warm up catalytic converter.
    • Check for leak at the exhaust system.
    • Check the injector.
    • Check for damage at the turbocharger.
If there are no problems at the items, replace EGT sensor 1, and EGT sensor 2. Then go to Step 1 and do this procedure again.
  1. If the HDS shows that the regeneration was interrupted because the exhaust gas temperature before the catalytic converter is too high (EGT sensor 1), check these items:
    • Check for leak at the exhaust system.
    • Check the injector.
    • Check the EGR valve.
    • Check the fuel pressure sensor.
If there are no problems at the items, replace EGT sensor 1. Then go to Step 1 and do this procedure again.
  1. If the HDS shows that the regeneration was interrupted because the exhaust gas temperature between the warm up catalytic converter and the DPF is too high (EGT sensor 2), check these items:
    • Check the warm up catalytic converter.
    • Check for leak at the exhaust system.
    • Check the injector.
    • Check the EGR valve.
If there are no problems at the items, replace EGT sensor 2. Then go to Step 1 and do this procedure again.
  1. If the HDS shows that the regeneration was interrupted because it was time out, check these items:
    • Check the warm up catalytic converter.
    • Check for vacuum leak at the intake system.
    • Check for leak at the exhaust system.
    • Check the injector.
If there are no problems at the items, replace EGT sensor 1, and EGT sensor 2. Then go to Step 1 and do this procedure again.
