DTC Troubleshooting: P1704 (175)

DTC P1704:
 Clutch Pedal Position Switch A/B Circuit Incorrect Correlation
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and review the general troubleshooting information.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  1. Check CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH A in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OFF indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 3 .
NO -
Go to Step 5 .
  1. Press the clutch pedal.
  1. Check CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH B in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is ON indicated?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at clutch pedal position switch A, clutch pedal position switch B and the ECM.■
NO -
Go to Step 10 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 2 minutes.
  1. Disconnect clutch pedal position switch A 2P connector.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector No. 2 (58P).
  1. Check for continuity between clutch pedal position switch A 2P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short in the wire between clutch pedal position switch A and ECM connector No. 2 terminal No. 40, then go to Step 15 .
NO -
Go to Step 9 .
  1. Check clutch pedal position switch A.
Is clutch pedal position switch A OK?
YES -
Go to Step 20 .
NO -
Adjust or replace clutch pedal position switch A, then go to Step 15 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 2 minutes.
  1. Disconnect clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector No. 2 (58P).
