Engine startup is impossible if the shift indicator shows an ‘‘A'' condition, even if shift lever is in driving position. Also, the Position Indicator warns by blinking. When starting the engine, turn the shift position to ‘‘N''.

Operation of the shift lever is done while stepping on the brake pedal. If brake pedal is not depressed when operating the shift lever, transmission will not shift gears.

In usual transmission, the brake pedal is depressed, the shift lever is changed from ‘‘N'' to driving position ‘‘A'', ‘‘R'', and ‘‘+''. When the brake pedal is released, the action is transmitted.

When the brake pedal is not depressed and the shift lever is changed from ‘‘N'' to ‘‘A'', ‘‘R'', and ‘‘+'', shifting gears is possible if the brake pedal is depressed within 25 seconds, and the action is transmitted when the brake pedal is released.
