M/T Assembly Removal

Special Tools Required

Engine support hanger

NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  1. Secure the hood in the wide open position with the support strut.
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio or the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the audio presets. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then disconnect the positive cable. Remove the battery.
  1. Remove the steering joint cover (A).
  1. Make a mark (B) to the steering joint (C) and pinion shaft (D), then disconnect the steering joint and pinion shaft.

  1. Remove the battery base (A).
  1. Remove the battery base bracket (B).

  1. Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (A), back-up light switch connector (B) and reverse lockout solenoid connector (C).

  1. Remove the clutch hose bracket (A) and the slave cylinder (B), then carefully move the slave cylinder out of the way to avoid bending the clutch line.
    NOTE:
    • Do not disconnect the clutch line joints.
    • Do not press the clutch pedal after the slave cylinder has been removed.

  1. Remove the air cleaner housing stay A and the air cleaner housing stay B.

  1. Remove the harness bracket (A). Remove the cable clips (B) and the lock pins (C), then disconnect the shift cables (D) from the cable bracket (E) and the change lever assembly (F).

  1. Remove the cable bracket (A) from the top of the transmission housing.

  1. Remove the harness cover (A) and the harness holder (B).

  1. Remove the transmission upper mounting bolts (A).

  1. Remove the harness cover (A). Attach the subhanger stay (B) to the threaded holes in the cylinder head using a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C).
    NOTE: The subhanger stay should avoid and attach the fuel hose and the air hose.

  1. Install the engine support hanger (A) with the hook (B) to the vehicle. Tighten the wing nut (C) by hand, and lift and support the engine.

  1. Remove the transmission mount bolt (A), nuts (B) and the ground cable bolt (C).

  1. Remove the stud bolts (A).
  1. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  1. Remove the lower torque rod mounting bolts (A).

  1. Remove the cotter pin (A), from the 12 mm nut (B), and loosen the nut.

  1. LHD model: Disconnect the motor 1P connector (A), and motor 2P connector (B). Wrap the connectors with vinyl tape to avoid the contamination from grease or water.

  1. RHD model: Disconnect the torque sensor 4P connector (A), motor-angle sensor 6P connector (B), motor 1P connector (C) and motor 2P connector (D). Wrap the connectors with vinyl tape to avoid the contamination from grease or water.

  1. LHD model: Disconnect the torque sensor 4P connector (A), and motor-angle sensor 6P connector (B), then remove them from the harness clamp bracket (C). Wrap the connectors with vinyl tape to avoid the contamination from grease or water.

  1. Disconnect the exhaust pipe mounting rubber (A) from the front suspension subframe (B).

  1. Support the front suspension subframe with a jack.

  1. Remove the front suspension subframe with the steering gearbox.

  1. Remove the intercooler pipe (A).

  1. Place the transmission jack under the transmission, and remove the lower transmission mounting bolts.
  1. Pull the transmission away from the engine until the transmission mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate.
  1. Slowly lower the transmission about 150 mm (6 in.). Check once again that all hoses and electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the transmission, then lower it completely.
