Lubricants and Fluids

Used engine oil may cause skin cancer if repeatedly left in contact with the skin for prolonged periods. Although this is unlikely unless you handle used oil on a daily basis, it is still advisable to thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible after handling used oil.

For the details of lubrication points and type of lubricants to be applied, refer to the illustrated index and various work procedures (such as Assembly/Reassembly, Replacement, Overhaul, Installation, etc.) contained in each section.
Lubrication Points
Lubricant
A
Engine (EU model)
Always use genuine Honda Oil, ACEA A1/B1, ACEA A3/B3, or ACEA A5/B5
ACEA viscosity: See chart.
Engine (except EU model)
Always use API service grade SL or higher SAE viscosity: See chart
B
Manual transmission
Honda manual transmission fluid (MTF)
Always use genuine Honda MTF * . Using motor oil can cause stiffer shifting because it does not contain the proper additives.
C
Brake system (including VSA lines)
Honda Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 4
We recommend genuine Honda Brake Fluid. Using a non-Honda brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.
D
E
Clutch system (PHE4 and SPWM manual transmission)
Clutch system (PJD4 automated manual transmission)
Honda Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 4
We recommend Genuine Honda Brake Fluid. Using a non-Honda brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.

SP-10 (P/N 38897-P13-003, 38898-P13-003, or 38899-P13-A01)
For refrigerant HFC-134a (R-134a)
S
Cooling system
Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2

*:
If genuine Honda MTF is not available, use API service SL or higher grade motor oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 as a temporary replacement.
