M/T Reverse Lockout System Circuit Troubleshooting

NOTE:
Driver can select the reverse gear when vehicle speed at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Check the No. 3 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Reinstall the fuse, then go to Step 3 .
NO -
Install the new No. 3 (10 A) fuse, and recheck. If the fuse continues to blow, check for short to body ground in the wire between the No. 3 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the reverse lockout solenoid or other component.■
  1. Test-drive the vehicle.
  1. Check the fuel and emissions system's DTC with the HDS.
Is any DTC in the ECM indicated?
YES -
NO -
Go to Step 5 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Measure the voltage between the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to Step 9 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the reverse lockout solenoid and the No. 3 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector C (49P).

  1. Check for continuity between the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 1 and ECM connector C (49P) terminal No. 27.
Is the continuity?
YES -
Go to Step 13 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the reverse lockout solenoid and the ECM.■
Is the reverse lockout solenoid OK?
YES -
Check for loose terminals or poor connections at ECM. If necessary, update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the trouble goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
NO -

Driver cannot select the reverse gear when vehicle speed at 15 km/h (9 mph) or less
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Try to shift the transmission into reverse.
Can you shift the transmission into the reverse?
YES -
Go to Step 4 .
NO -
Go to Step 3 .
Is the reverse lockout solenoid OK?
YES -
Check the change lever assembly, if necessary inspect the internal transmission.■
NO -
  1. Start the engine.
Can you shift the transmission into the reverse?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.■
NO -
Go to Step 5 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector C (49P).
  1. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector.
  1. Check for continuity between body ground and reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 1.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short to body ground in the wire between the reverse lockout solenoid and the ECM.■
NO -
Check for loose terminals or poor connections at ECM. If necessary, update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, then recheck. If the trouble goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
