Steering Wheel Upshift (+) Switch Circuit Troubleshooting
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, and the precautions and procedures before performing repair or service.
  1. Check for continuity between steering switch harness 20P connector terminals No. 8 and No. 10 while pressing steering wheel upshift (+) switch and when the switch is released.
Is there continuity while pressing steering wheel upshift (+) switch and no continuity when the switch released?
YES -
Go to Step 5 .
NO -
Go to Step 3 .
  1. Disconnect the steering wheel upshift (+) switch connector.
  1. Check for continuity between steering wheel upshift (+) switch connector terminals while pressing the switch and when the switch is released.
Is there continuity while pressing the switch and no continuity when the switch released?
YES -
NO -
  1. Check for continuity cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to Step 7 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 3 and ground (G403), or repair poor ground (G403).■
  1. Check for continuity between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 5 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short to ground in the wire between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 5 and Shifter connector terminal No. 7.■
NO -
Go to Step 8 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and shift to the A position.
  1. Measure voltage between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 3 and No. 5.
Is there about 5 V in neutral position and no voltage while pressing steering wheel upshift (+) switch?
YES -
NO -
Go to Step 10 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  1. Disconnect Shifter connector (12P).
  1. Check for continuity between Shifter connector terminal No. 7 and cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 5.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Check for loose or poor connections at Shifter connector terminal No. 7 If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good Shifter and recheck.■
NO -
Repair open in the wire between Shifter connector terminal No. 7 and cable reel 20P connector.■
