M/T Reverse Lockout System Circuit Troubleshooting

  1. Start the engine and check the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
NOTE: DTC P0102, P0340, P0365, P0443, and P16BC is indicated by circuit open.
Does the MIL come on?
YES -
Troubleshoot the DTC, and recheck.■
NO -
Go to Step 2 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  1. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  1. Measure the voltage between the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to Step 6 .
NO -
Check for loose or poor connections at connector. If the connections are OK, repair open in the wire between No. 3 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 2.■
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector A (44P).

  1. Check for continuity between reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short in the wire between the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 1 and the ECM connector A27.■
NO -
Go to Step 9 .

  1. Check for continuity between ECM connector A27 and reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector terminal No. 1.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to Step 10 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the reverse lockout solenoid terminal No. 1 and the ECM connector A27.■

  1. At reverse lockout solenoid side, connect the No. 2 terminal of the reverse lockout solenoid to the battery positive terminal, and connect the No. 1 terminal to the battery negative terminal. Check that the reverse lockout solenoid operates.
Does the reverse lockout solenoid operate properly?
YES -
If necessary, update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM .■
