Engine Removal

Special Tools Required
These tools use only for except EU models.
NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.
  1. Secure the hood in the wide open position (support rod in the lower hole).
  1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then disconnect the positive cable.
  1. Remove the battery.

  1. Remove the vacuum hose (A) and breather pipe (B), then remove the intake air duct (C).

  1. Remove the battery cables from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

  1. Disconnect the starter subharness 1P connector (A), and remove the harness clamp (B), then remove the air intake duct (C).

  1. Remove the harness clamp (A), ground cable (B). Remove the two bolts (C) and loosen the two bolts (D), then remove the battery base (E).

  1. Remove the engine control module (ECM) cover (A), then remove the three bolts (B) securing the ECM.

  1. Disconnect the ECM connectors (A) and engine wire harness connectors (B).
  1. Remove the harness clamp (C).

  1. Remove the under-hood fuse/relay box from the bracket, then remove the ECM bracket.

  1. Remove the harness clamps (A).
  1. Remove the air cleaner housing base (B), then remove the air cleaner housing base bracket (C).

  1. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (A) and brake booster vacuum hose (B).

  1. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose.
  1. Remove the radiator cap.
  1. Raise the vehicle on the lift to full height.
  1. Remove the front wheels.

  1. Remove the engine undercover.

  1. Disconnect the air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor connector (A) and secondary heated oxygen sensor (secondary HO2S) connector (B).
  1. Remove the three way catalytic converter (TWC) (C).
  1. Remove the driveshafts. Coat all precision-finished surfaces with clean engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.
  1. Lower the vehicle on the lift.

  1. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), then remove the harness clamps (B).
  1. Remove the A/C compressor (C) without disconnecting the A/C hoses.

  1. Remove the A/C compressor bracket.

  1. Remove the heater hoses.
  1. Raise the vehicle on the lift to full height.

  1. Remove the lower torque rod.

  1. Remove the front mount mounting bolt.

  1. Remove the front beam.

  1. Remove the front mount.
  1. Lower the vehicle on the lift.

  1. Remove the idler pulley base.
