DTC Troubleshooting: P2084 (188)

DTC P2084:
 EGT Sensor 1/2 Incorrect Correlation
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and review the general troubleshooting information.
  1. Start the engine, and keep idling until the engine coolant temperature becomes above 70 °C (158 °F).
  1. Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (min −1 ) without load (in neutral) for 3 minutes.
  1. Quickly note the value of EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (EGT) 1 and EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (EGT) 2 in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
  1. Check the value of the two sensors.
Does either sensor value differ more than 50 °C (90 °F) from 150 °C (302 °F)?
YES -
Replace the sensor that differed more than 50 °C (90 °F) from 150 °C (302 °F), then go to Step 13 .
NO -
Go to Step 5 .
  1. Test-drive under these conditions:
    • Transmission in 2nd gear
    • Vehicle speed at 70 km/h (44 mph)
    • Drive about 30 seconds or more
  1. Quickly note the value of EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (EGT) 1 and EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (EGT) 2 in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
  1. Check the value of the two sensors.
Does either sensor value differ more than 20 °C (36 °F) from 260 °C (500 °F)?
YES -
Replace the sensor that differed more than 20 °C (36 °F) from 260 °C (500 °F), then go to Step 13 .
NO -
Go to Step 8 .
  1. Start the engine, and keep idling until the engine coolant temperature becomes above 70 °C (158 °F).
  1. Test-drive under these conditions:
    • Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 70 °C (158 °F)
    • On flat route
    • Transmission in 2nd gear
    • Vehicle speed at 70 km/h (44 mph)
    • Drive about 30 seconds or more
  1. Check EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (EGT) 1 in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is about 260 °C (500 °F) or more indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 11 .
NO -
Continue to drive until the temperature becomes above 260 °C (500 °F), then go to Step 11 .
  1. Test-drive under these conditions:
    • Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 70 °C (158 °F)
    • On flat route
    • Transmission in 2nd gear
    • Decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from an engine speed of 3,500 rpm (min −1 ) without applying brakes
  1. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2084 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate FAILED?
YES -
NO -
If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at EGT sensor 1, EGT sensor 2, and the ECM. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to Step 8 and recheck.
  1. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
  1. Start the engine, and keep idling until the engine coolant temperature becomes above 70 °C (158 °F).
