Fuel Filter Water Level Switch Test

Do the gauge drive circuit check.
- If the fuel gauge indicator sweeps from the minimum to maximum position and then returns to minimum the gauge is OK. Go to Step 2 .
- If the fuel gauge indicator does not sweep correctly, replace the gauge control module (tach). and retest.

Start the engine, then check the engine condition.
- If the engine condition is OK, go to Step 4 .
- If the engine condition is not OK, do the symptom troubleshooting.

Connect fuel filter water level switch 2P connector terminal No. 2 to body ground with a jumper wire.

Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and then check the water in fuel filter display.
- If the water in fuel filter display is on, repair open in the BLK wire between the fuel filter water level switch and G401. If wire is OK, go to Step 8 .
- If the water in fuel filter display is not on, repair open in the GRN wire between the fuel filter water level switch and ECM connector No. 2 terminal No. 86. If wire is OK, substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.

Check the float movement of the fuel filter water level switch.
- If the float movement is OK, go to Step 11 .
- If there is a problem on the float movement, replace the fuel filter water level switch.

Connect the fuel filter water level switch 2P connector to the fuel filter water level switch.

Move the float of the fuel filter water level switch, and check the water in fuel filter display.
- If the display turns on when the float is at the top position, the fuel filter water level switch is OK.
- If the display stays on or off when the float is at any position, replace the fuel filter water level switch.
