Headlight Leveling Sensor Circuit Troubleshooting

NOTE: Before troubleshooting, check the No. 1 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  1. Turn the combination (headlight) switch ON.
  1. Raise the vehicle, make sure it is securely supported.
  1. Disconnect the 3P connector (A) from the headlight leveling sensor (B).
Front
Rear

  1. Check for continuity between the headlight leveling sensor 3P connector No. 3 terminal and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to Step 6 .
NO -
Repair an open in the wire or poor ground (G503), if the wire is OK, replace the headlight auto leveling control unit.■

  1. Measure voltage between the headlight leveling sensor 3P connector No. 1 terminal and body ground.
Is there about 5 V?
YES -
Go to Step 7 .
NO -
Check for an open or short in the wire between the headlight auto leveling control unit and the front (or rear) headlight leveling sensor, if OK, replace the front (or rear) headlight leveling sensor .■

  1. Remove the headlight leveling sensor 3P connector (A) and the headlight leveling sensor (B) from the suspension side.
  1. Reconnect the headlight leveling sensor 3P connector (A).
Front
Rear

  1. Measure voltage between the No. 6 [No. 7] and No. 12 [No. 4] terminals by moving the shaft slowly.

Is there about 0.5−4.5 V?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connection between the headlight auto leveling control unit and the front (or rear) headlight leveling sensor, if OK, replace the front (or rear) headlight leveling sensor.■
NO -
Check for an open or short in the wire between the headlight auto leveling control unit and the front (or rear) headlight leveling sensor, if OK, replace the front (or rear) headlight leveling sensor .■
