Rear Bumper Removal/Installation

NOTE:
  • Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the front bumper.
  • When removing components, use the trim tools or equivalent.
  • Take care not to scratch the front bumper and body.
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  1. Remove the caps (A). Remove the bolts (B) and clips (C) securing the rear bumper (D).

  1. Remove the screws (A) and clips (B) from both sides.

  1. Gently pull out on the rear edge of the wheel arch protector (A) to release the hooks (B).
  1. Start the bottom to the middle of the wheel arch, pry the clip portions of the wheel arch protector up with a trim tool to detach the clips (C, D).
    NOTE: Take care not to damage paint around a clip hole in the rear outside panel during clip removal. If paint is damaged, repair it with touch-up paint to ensure corrosion protection.
  1. Repeat Step 3 to step 4 on the other side of the rear bumper to release the other rear wheel arch protector from the rear bumper.

  1. On both sides, insert shop towels (A) between both wheel arch protectors (B) and body. Remove the screws (C) and clips (D) securing the front bumper (E) from both sides.

  1. Pull on the rear bumper (A) at the wheel arch areas to release it from the hooks (B) on the side spacers (C).

  1. With the help of an assistant, pull the wheel arch portion away from the side spacer (A).

  1. With the help of assistant, pull the rear bumper (A) to release the bumper from the hooks (B) on the upper bracket (C).
  1. Install the bumper in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Make sure the rear bumper engages the hooks (of both the side bracket and side spacers) on each side securely.
    • Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones.
    • Push the clips and hooks into place securely.
