Door Outer Handle Replacement

Without Super Locking
NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  1. Raise the glass fully.
  1. Remove the screws, then remove the panel bracket (A).

  1. Disconnect the power door look actuator connector (A) and the clip (B).
  1. Remove the plug caps (C), then remove the plastic cover (D), as needed.

  1. Set a 5 mm hexagonal socket wrench into the special bolt securing the outer handle subprotector (A). Loosen the special bolt while pressing the hexagonal socket wrench perpendicularly to it. Remove the bolt, then remove the door cylinder (B) by releasing the hook (C) and detaching the harness clip (D).
    NOTE:
    • If the head of the special bolt was worn out before loosening the bolt, use a commercially available screw extractor or a pair of vise pliers to remove the bolt.
    • The removed special bolt must be replaced.

  1. Driver's: Pull both side flanges (A) of the retainer (B) outward, and pull the middle flange portion (C) of the outer casing cover (D) out, then disconnect the cylinder cable (E) from the latch.

  1. If necessary, cut a slot in each screwhead of the special screws with a saw, remove the special screws with a flat-tip screwdriver, then separate the door cylinder (A) and outer handle subprotector (B). If the retainer (C) is damaged, release the hooks (D), and replace it.
    NOTE: If removed, the special screw must be replaced.

  1. Remove the maintenance cap (A), and remove the bolts securing the outer handle protector (B).

  1. Release the hook (A) and pull up the outer handle protector (B) by releasing the hook (C), then remove the outer handle protector.

  1. Pull out the outer handle (A).

  1. Disconnect the outer handle rod (A). Take care not to scratch the door.

  1. Remove the rod fastener (A) from the outer handle (B), then replace it with a new one.
  1. Install the handle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Make sure the cylinder cable and outer handle rod is connected securely.
    • Make sure the door key cylinder/door locks operate properly.
    • Make sure the door handle works properly.
    • When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.

With Super Locking

  1. Pull out the outer handle (A).

  1. Disconnect the outer handle rod (A). Take care not to scratch door.

  1. Remove the rod fastener (A) from the outer handle (B), then replace it with a new one.
  1. Install the handle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Make sure the cylinder cable and outer handle rod is connected securely.
    • Make sure the door key cylinder/door locks operate properly.
